“Meals on Wheels” Service launched in July 2020

The Asian Association of Chesterfield and N. Derbyshire is delighted to introduce

SAFFRON KITCHEN : COMMUNITY MEALS SERVICE 

delivering fresh, hot, nutritious meals direct to your door!

How it began:

​

For some time, the Association saw need in the community for a mid-day meal delivery service for elderly and vulnerable people and carers. We knew from our own members, associate members and a wider community survey that a need existed. 

In 2020, the Asian Association was successful in receiving a Big Lottery - Reaching Communities Grant and Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund for this project.

Up until June of 2021, the Association was grateful for the collaboration and support from Rural Action Derbyshire in their project 'Feeding Derbyshire'.

Initially, Saffron Kitchen was targeted toward elderly and vulnerable members and carers, with a service area covering those in the wider community of Chesterfield, Hasland, Grassmoor, Hady and other locals within a feasible radius e.g. Old Brampton, Calow etc. Since then Saffron Kitchen has opened its orders up to everyone and anyone who wishes to do so.

 

The income generated through orders from the general public have supplemented the delivery of meals to vulnerable members of the community.

The Saffron Kitchen Meals on Wheels project was created to provide immediate benefits and support during the “Lockdown” period but, as predicted, is still required by vulnerable members of the community. We intend to continue into the future and become self-sustaining!
